TRANSORAL ENDOSCOPIC THYROIDECTOMY WORKSHOP

Wednesday, 8 April 2025 (Full Day)

Procedural Skills Lab, Basement 1, Academia

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy (Vestibular Approach) (TOETVA) represents one of the most exciting advances in minimally invasive endocrine surgery, offering a truly scarless option for patients while maintaining oncological safety and surgical precision. This cadaveric workshop aims to provide participants with a comprehensive and practical understanding of the TOETVA technique through immersive hands-on experience. Participants will learn directly from distinguished international and local experts who have extensive experience in performing and teaching this approach. The workshop will combine focused lectures, live demonstrations, and cadaveric dissections to bridge the gap between theory and operative execution in a safe, guided environment.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the principles, indications, and contraindications of transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy (vestibular approach).

  • Familiarise themselves with the anatomical landmarks and key steps involved in TOETVA.

  • Gain practical experience in trocar placement, subplatysmal flap creation, and dissection techniques on cadaveric models.

  • Recognise potential complications and strategies for their prevention and management.

  • Appreciate the patient selection criteria, perioperative workflow, and instrumentation required for safe implementation.

  • Engage in discussions with expert faculty on surgical tips, pitfalls, and best practices for starting a TOETVA program in their own institutions.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

  • Endocrine/General/ENT surgeons with an interest in endocrine or minimally invasive surgery

  • Head and neck surgeons and surgical oncologists performing thyroid or parathyroid surgery

  • Surgical residents and fellows seeking exposure to emerging techniques in scarless thyroid surgery
